About me

Berkeley therapist Erin Fon
(she/her)

Hi, I'm Erin—a former tech worker turned therapist based in Berkeley, CA.

I specialize in developmental and relational trauma: the kind that starts early, shapes how you see yourself, and quietly drives the patterns in your relationships and your nervous system long into adulthood. If you've ever felt like you know something intellectually but can't seem to actually feel it differently—that's a lot of what we work on together.

I'm in this for the long game. Real change takes time, and I'd rather be honest with you about that upfront than sell you on something faster than it actually is.

I work with adults, teens, and couples throughout California—online, and in person on Wednesdays in Berkeley.

My approach

I pull from a range of modalities—relational, somatic, psychodynamic, humanistic, attachment-based, and gestalt—but the thread running through all of it is this: your body knows things your words haven't caught up to yet.

In our work together, you'll build curiosity about your internal world—noticing what happens emotionally and physically when certain patterns get activated. This isn't symptom management. It's depth work—the kind that actually shifts long-standing patterns over time.

Who I work with

I work with adults who feel things deeply and have spent a lot of their lives being told that's a problem. Worriers, over-thinkers, highly sensitive people. People who've done some therapy before and want to go deeper than symptom management. Teens navigating hard transitions. Couples who want more than communication scripts. I also have a particular soft spot for people navigating workplace trauma and burnout, especially those in the tech industry who've found that the way they work has quietly started to cost them something.

I'm LGBTQ+ affirming, neurodivergent affirming, and actively work to create a space that's welcoming to people of all backgrounds, including BIPOC and LGBTQ+ folks.

My background

I hold an MA in Counseling Psychology from the California Institute of Integral Studies. I'm an Associate Marriage and Family Therapist (AMFT #143401), supervised by Laura Gardner, LMFT #53622.

Before becoming a therapist, I spent over a decade working in tech as a software product manager in mid-sized startups—an experience that shapes how I think about this work and comes in handy with clients navigating the particular exhaustion that tech culture can produce. (I’m less worried about "patching the bug," and more interested in "what's actually going on underneath" with a side of refactoring.)

Outside the therapy room, I love a good puzzle, crochet, and a mystery I can sink into—books or TV, I'm not picky. I'm originally from Ohio, and people often find me warm, a bit direct, and polite with a side of swearing.
